slicing and dicing

1st week in Surgery and I'm finally using whatever brain juice that's left.

The new "learning style" over here can really piss you off though. After 2.5 years of cramming as much info as you can into that thick skull of yours, there just ain't nothing there.

"All you need to do is just apply your knowledge"

Any mangkuk, cawan, garpu or sudu can vomit out knowledge. Try explaining the rasional behind the vomitus.

Being in the wards "can" be the best thing for a medical student. That's where the real shit happens. Then again, aren't we all too familiar with students posing up and down the ward carrying a whole load of stuff around.

So far, everyone's been nice. HO's are pretty screwed up people ... literally. You just don't find any other job that goes on from 6.30am to 9.00pm on a "normal" day. The price we pay for pricks who don't listen to doctors' advice.

At this point in time, surgeons make the most sense. These people are the only reason the practice of medicine hasn't gone bonkers. Simple, systematic ... you're done.

The highlights of Surgery so far?

"One of you glove up and assist me with this TNS." ... MO says.
Shungsters quickly washes his hands and puts on the gloves excitedly.
"Okay. Now, you just get the gauze and blade ready. Just dry up any blood that flows out and cut the sutures when I tell you too" ... MO says again.
Shungsters is all ready with his gear waiting for the action to happen ... looking like an idiot.
You can see the a big patch of skin on the patient's forehead flapping and blood just rushing out.
"U kena pakai itu mask juga masa buat prosedur ni." ... one students nurse tells me.
Shungsters is extremely apologetic for his incompetence to both doctor and nurse.
"Tak apa. U pakai itu mask untuk dia" ... MO tells nurse.
Shungsters just turns around as the student nurse wears the mask for him.



*fine ... the last part was a lil self-glorifying ... so, sue me.
