the generation gap & the circle of life

Back in the day, when we were still kids, we all wanted to be like our parents. To eat the same foods they eat. To talk the same way they do. To do the things that only adults are allowed to do.

Somehow, as we get older, not anymore.

The beginning of our teenage years marks the start of our "rebellion". There just arises a desire to be different. The search for an identity. Nothing wrong with that. The downside - we think we're the only ones who are right. That despite after 12 years of watching your scrawny ass grow up, parents suddenly don't understand how we feel or think.

The generation gap, they say?

I believe there exists a generation gap. But I also believe this gap has a life-span and dies a natural death over time.

Every generation is born into different circumstances. Growing up in the 50's would most definitely differ from growing up in the 80's or the 90's. And each generation has their own way of surviving the times. Each person's personality is moulded by the social values and ethics of that time.

Most of the time, we don't understand these differences. Some don't even bother to try. Thus, the clash between generations.

I also believe in the circle of life. The circle of life doesn't change. It has survived the centuries before us and will survive the centuries to come. We all go through this circle. The process of growth and finally maturity, hopefully for some. The principles in this circles does not change, no matter which generation or how big the generation gaps may be.

It is within the circle of life that this generation gap's life cycle co-exists.

The older we get, the more we realise why we want to eat what our parents eat. Why we want to talk they way they do. And why we wanna do things the way they do.

Life is cruel. And that's an understatement. But that's when we finally realise why parents are parents. That's when the generation gap dies off.

The circle of life continues.

"Like father, Like son"

"Like mother, Like daughter"

Its about time we stop being selfish and be more appreciative of our parents.
